The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of crop diversification on farm households’ agricultural income. Abundant literature have explored the determinants and efficient strategies for crop diversification. Yet, there is a paucity of research studies that empirically test the effectiveness of crop diversification as a profitable farm management strategy. Utilizing the 2015 Agricultural Census, this study adopts a quasi-experimental research design to compare the outcomes between farm households that opted for crop diversification and farm households that did not engage in such a strategy. In doing so, this study applies the Heckman Selection Model and the decomposition technique to address the problem of selection bias and to identify the causal effect. Our empirical results show that farms that implement diversification are more likely to earn higher agricultural income than non-diversified farms, although the difference would not be much substantial. This study concludes with several policy proposals to stabilize agricultural income in conjunction with crop diversification.
An Analysis of the Experience of Visitors of Fishing Experience Recreation Village Using Big Data - A Focus on Baekmi Village in Hwaseong-si and Susan Village in Yangyang-gun -
This study used big data to analyze visitors’ experiences in Fishing Experience Recreation Village. Through the portal site posting data for the past s ix years, the experience of visiting Fishing Experience Villages in Baekmi and Susan was analyzed. The analysis method used Text mining and Social Network Analysis which are Big data analysis techniques. Data was collected using Textom, and experience keywords were extracted by analyzing the frequency and importance of experience texts. Afterwards, the characteristics of the experience of visiting the Fishing Experience Village were identified through the analysis of the interaction between the experience keywords using ‘Ucinet 6.0’ and ‘NetDraw’. First, through TF and TF-IDF values, keywords such as “Gungpyeong Port”, “Susan Port”, and “Yacht Marina” that refer to the name of the port and the port facilities appeared at the top. This is interpreted as the name of the port has the greatest impact on the recognition of the Fishing Experience Villages, and visitors showed a lot of interest in the port facilities. Second, focusing on the unique elements of port facilities and fishing villages such as “mud flat experience”, “fishing village experience”, “Gungpyeong port”, “Susan port”, “yacht marina”, and “beach” through the values of degree, closeness, and betweenness centrality interpreted as having an interaction with various experiences. Third, through the CONCOR analysis, it was confirmed that the visitor’s experience was focused on the dynamic behavior, the experience program had the greatest influence on the experience of the visitor, and that the experience of the static and the dynamic behavior was relatively balanced. In conclusion, the experience of visitors in the Fishing Experience Villages is most affected by the environment of the fishing village such as the tidal flats and the coast and the fishing village experience program conducted at the fishing port facilities. In particular, it was found that fishing port facilities such as ports and marinas had a high influence on the awareness of the Fishing Experience Villages. Therefore, it is important to actively utilize the scenery and environment unique to fishing villages in order to revitalize the Fishing Experience Villages experience and improve the quality of the visitor experience. This study is significant in that it studied visitors’ experiences in fishing village recreation villages using big data and derived the connection between fishing village and fishing village infrastructure in fishing village experience tourism.
The Differences and Activation of Physical Activity Therapy Program in Urban-Rural Region Before and After COVID-19 - Focused on Gimcheon, Jeongeup, and Pyeongtaek -

This study was to analyze the Physical Activity Therapy Programs (PATPs) in Urban-rural region before and after COVID-19 in order to suggest a way of activating program. The subjects were the 43 PATPs performed in 4 Community Health Centers of Gimcheon, Jeongeup, and Pyeongtaek. The basic data was collected by official documents, expenditure budget, the homepage of the centers, national information disclosure portal, telephone interview, and e-mail with the person in charge of the programs. All the data were classified to the administrative districts, the health-related fitness variables, and the life cycles. The American College Sports Medicine Guidelines were used to evaluate the PATPs. As a results, the number of the PATPs was too small compared to the population of the regions. Also, the PATPs were not considered to the characteristics of participants such as Life-Cycle and regional facilities so on. The organization and management of the PATPs were principally deficient in improving health-related fitness variables. In 2020 as the period of COVID-19 pandemic, the number of programs and participants with face-to-face PATPs was significantlry decreased compared to 2019, while that was increased with non-face-to-face PATPs. In conclusion, PATPs should be increased and operated in accordance with scientific exercise prescription guidelines. Also, the programs should be considered with the proportion and characteristics of Life-Cycle population. Further, the various with non-face-to-face PATPs should be developed and screened with based on scientific data for post-corona virus pandemic. Further, non-face-to-face PATPs programs should include a kind of practical way to promote the individual physical activity.
Ammonia emission from the agricultural sector contributes almost 78% of total ammonia emission in Korea. The current ammonia emission estimation method from fertilizer application has high uncertainty and needs to be improved. In this study, we propose an improvement method for estimating the amount of ammonia emission from agricultural land with improved spatiotemporal resolution using Farm Manager Registration Information System and criteria for the fertilizer. We calculated ammonia emissions by utilizing the 2020 cultivation area provided by Farm Manager Registration Information System for 55 kinds of upland crops cultivated in the field area of the farmland. As a result, soybeans were the most cultivated field crop in 2020, and the area of cultivated land was surveyed at about 77,021 ha, followed by sweet potatoes 22,057 ha, garlic 20004 ha, potatoes 17,512 ha, and corn 16,636 ha. The month with the highest ammonia emissions throughout the year was calculated by emitting 590.01 ton yr-1 in May, followed by 486.55 ton yr-1 in March. Hallim-eup in Jeju showed the highest ammonia emission at 117.50 ton yr-1.
This study analysed changes in rural tourism between before and after COVID-19 using LDA topic analysis. In order to understand the changes in rural tourism, blog data including the keyword ‘Gochang-gun travel’ was used. As a result of LDA topic analysis with blog data retrieved, the study found nine topics in 2019 and 2020. 2019 and 2020 are, generally, consistent in topics, but the three topics related to rural experiential tourism that appeared in 2019 did not appear in 2020. In 2020, three new topics emerged: Beach vacations and campings. New travel activities of noncontact with other people(Untact tourism in Korean context) in the COVID-19 era, and The negative impacts on travel businesses and behaviours from COVID-19. Especially, the adverse effects of COVID-19 have made an enormous decline in rural experience tourism destinations and cancellation of local festivals. On the other hand, new tourism activities have emerged due to COVID-19. Those activities have included camping, drive-thru destinations, and cycling. Ecological and natural tourist sites such as Ungok Wetland, Seonunsan Mountain, Seonunsa Temple, and Gusipo Beach appeared. These tourist destinations have a quiet atmosphere and less density place noncontacting with other people when visiting. Also, because overseas travel has become difficult, long-term stay travel in rural areas has appeared. This study indicates that COVID-19 has less impacted rural tourism than other tourism destinations with these positive and negative impacts.
Analysis of Time Series Changes in the Surrounding Environment of Rural Local Resources Using Aerial Photography and UAV - Focousing on Gyeolseong-myeon, Hongseong-gun -

In this study, in the field of remote sensing, where the scope of application is rapidly expanding to fields such as land monitoring, disaster prediction, facility safety inspection, and maintenance of cultural properties, monitoring of rural space and surrounding environment using UAV is utilized. It was carried out to verify the possibility, and the following main results were derived. First, the aerial image taken with an unmanned aerial vehicle had a much higher image size and spatial resolution than the aerial image provided by the National Geographic Information Service. It was suitable for analysis due to its high accuracy. Second, the more the number of photographed photos and the more complex the terrain features, the more the point cloud included in the aerial image taken with the UAV was extracted. As the amount of point cloud increases, accurate 3D mapping is possible, For accurate 3D mapping, it is judged that a point cloud acquisition method for difficult-to-photograph parts in the air is required. Third, 3D mapping technology using point cloud is effective for monitoring rural space and rural resources because it enables observation and comparison of parts that cannot be read from general aerial images. Fourth, the digital elevation model(DEM) produced with aerial image taken with an UAV can visually express the altitude and shape of the topography of the study site, so it can be used as data to predict the effects of topographical changes due to changes in rural space. Therefore, it is possible to utilize various results using the data included in the aerial image taken by the UAV. In this study, the superiority of images acquired by UAV was verified by comparison with existing images, and the effect of 3D mapping on rural space monitoring was visually analyzed. If various types of spatial data such as GIS analysis and topographic map production are collected and utilized using data that can be acquired by unmanned aerial vehicles, it is expected to be used as basic data for rural planning to maintain and preserve the rural environment.
A Method of Selecting Priority Support Villages by Establishing an Post Evaluation System for Rural Development Projects - In the Case of Rural Development Projects of Taean-gun -

A diverse rural development projects are continuously increasing. However, in most villages, the business run by residents is not being operated normally. Followed by these problems, a follow-up management evaluation system has been created and utilized, but the existing evaluation system is only administratively approached and not suitable for application in reality. This research emphasizes that the perspective of community and re-startup support should be added to the evaluation system as these are projects that are carried out to improve the quality of life of local residents and enhance the rehabilitation of villages. Based on the evaluation system proposed in this study, field surveys and interview surveys were conducted targeting 10 villages in Taean-gun, Chungcheongnam-do in South Korea. As a result of the study, various types that have not been activated were derived, and they were presented by categorizing them. The purpose of this study is to help the rehabilitation of common rural villages by providing a updated post evaluation system and items that can be applied not only to Taean-gun but also to numerous villages in the entire villages in South Korea.
A Study on the Perception of Public Value from Public Corporation in the Agricultural and Rural Sector - The Case of Korea Rural Community Corporation -

This study analyzes the perception of public value created by Korea Rural Community Corporation, a representative public corporation in the agricultural and rural sector. We categorize agricultural and rural public values as ‘stable food supply,’ ‘conservation of national environment and nature,’ ‘formation and cultivation of water resources,’ ‘prevention of soil loss and flooding,’ ‘conservation of ecological system,’ ‘conservation of rural tradition and culture.’ For the qualitative analysis, we apply content analysis. And, for the quantitative analysis, we use topic modeling and Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) analysis which is used widely in the field of text-mining. Results show that internal perception for value suppliers are mainly created for ‘stable food supply,’ ‘formation and cultivation of water resources,’ and ‘conservation of rural tradition and culture.’ External perception for value demanders are created for all public values, but its evaluation and demand include various aspects including both positive and negative opinions.
The Effect of Horticultural Therapy on Cognitive Function, Depression, Self-esteem and Activity Daily Living(ADL) in Dementia Care - A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis -

The purpose of this study is to systematically review and to objectively identify the effect size in order to understand the effects of horticultural therapy on cognitive function, depression, self-esteem, and activity daily living(ADL) of dementia patients. Related studies published in Korean and English were selected by searching domestic and foreign academic databases. The risk of bias assessment of individual studies was performed on the included 18 literatures. Horticultural therapy was found to be significantly effective in cognitive function(effect size=1.06), depression(effect size=0.64), self-esteem(effect size=0.99), and ADL(effect size=1.98) in dementia care. It is expected that related experimental studies will be repeatedly conducted to produce a more objective effect size calculation.
Development of Practical Investigation and Diagnosis Model in Rural Villages(II) - Development of Efficient Application Procedures and Investigation Methodologies -

The purpose of this study is to develop a application procedure and survey method for the empirical diagnostic indices system. In order to know the survey method, which has 65 investigation items for 52 indicators, this study not only presented so that the each survey items could be surveyed in at least 1 to 3 steps, but also presented the 4 survey method for each investigation items: preliminary survey, administrative survey, field survey, and interview survey. As a result of applying to 15 sample villages, the period of surveying a village of 100 households was 1.4 days, and it was confirmed that the survey was generally efficient in a short time. As a result of applying the survey system to the sample village, the developed survey system showed the possibility of investigating even the details of rural villages. Therefore, it was judged that it could be used as a basic procedure for a rural village unit survey.
